The transformation

Before I can talk about my approach as a transformational coach, I think it’s important to start with a simple definition of “transformation.” Transformation is being different, without having to think about being different. It’s that point in learning where what you do becomes muscle memory and what you think is organically in alignment with what you want and what you believe about yourself.  You just “are.”

Here’s a friendly example to illustrate the process of transformation. Think about what it takes to become a driver. You go to driving school, practice on the road a bit, take your test, and exclaim, “I got my driver’s license!” or “I passed!” Rarely does anyone shout right after that test, “I’m a driver!”  Because although you’re practicing the habits of being a driver, the muscle memory isn’t there yet, so your brain has to work really hard and your heart doesn't quite buy into you identifying as “a driver.” That takes time, practice, and usually a supportive parent or sibling who believes in you. You keep practicing and months after getting your license, you realize that you drove to the grocery store without mouthing the steps to change lanes. You did it! You were in the flow, muscle memory activated. You are “a driver.”  This example of transformation is pretty basic, but it’s a fairly universal one. The point is that everyone can experience transformation in their lives. If you can envision a new version of yourself as you relate to your health, or your job, or your relationship, then you can get there through working with a skilled and compassionate transformational coach.

The way it works

How does transformational coaching work? First, I meet my clients exactly where they are and hold each and every one with unconditional positive regard. I’m here to help them tune into their intuition to define what they truly want, identify obstacles or limiting beliefs, and to help them create attainable action steps that deliver results. This is a collaborative process where I use my expertise to create an individualized coaching program that contains three things: the right system, the right support and the right accountability.

The right SYSTEM: This means that the right steps are in the right order so that you are motivated and empowered to grow and change rather than demotivated and disempowered. Suggested activities and resources are carefully chosen to support your goals.

The right SUPPORT: I’m an unwavering cheerleader, celebrating the wins, bearing witness to the struggles and encouraging you when you’re stuck. You will feel seen and heard every step of the way.

The right ACCOUNTABILITY: If we could make big changes and step into new ways of being on our own, we probably would have done it by now, right? Having a knowledgeable accountability partner to provide feedback and give a nudge when you’re falling off track is a huge part of successful habit change.

The promise

If you engage fully in this process, you will be transformed. Whether your goal is to get fit, change careers, or improve your relationship, you will come away from this work with a new baseline, new rituals, new beliefs about yourself and what’s possible, and a new way of moving through the world. The coaching process isn’t magic, but it can definitely feel magical, and it’s my hope that you’ll invite me on your journey.

Transformation is being different without having to think about being different.

FAQs

Is coaching right for me?

There are so many ways you can benefit from the support of a knowledgeable transformational coach. For example, you will benefit if:

  • You are having difficulty following through on your health and/or weight goals or are unsure where to start

  • You are going through a big life transition- breakup, divorce, death of a loved one, graduation, empty nester, health change, retirement

  • You struggle to maintain work-life balance and are feeling the effects of chronic stress

  • You are feeling stuck in your career but struggling with motivation and inspiration to change

  • You often feel as though you have “lost” yourself and want to live with greater authenticity and confidence

  • You want to improve your communication with loved ones to form deeper and more meaningful relationships

  • You want to invite more creativity into your life

  • You are craving a stronger spiritual connection

Essentially, if you can envision a new way to be, a strong coach can help bridge the gap between what you are currently experiencing and what you WANT to be experiencing. Additionally, if you feel lost and are unsure what your next move is, a coach can help you clarify your desires and co-create the path to get you there. Let’s walk the path together!

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

A therapist is trained and licensed to diagnose and treat mental health conditions using a variety of approaches. Therapists typically spend more time delving into family and personal history to uncover the “why” behind patterns of thinking or behaving that are not serving clients. One way to think of therapy is that it helps the client answer the question, “How did I get HERE?”

A coach, on the other hand, spends more time helping a client answer the question, “How do I get THERE?” “There” being a desirable point in the future. A certified coach is trained in how to help clients clarify their desires, explore barriers or false narratives that are not serving them and set achievable goals. Expert coaches know how to listen and ask the right questions to help clients find their truth in any situation. A coach cannot diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Coaching is not therapy, but the coach-client relationship can be very therapeutic and clients often have great success when they seek support from both therapists and coaches.

Do you accept insurance for coaching services?

No, insurance is not accepted as a form of payment for coaching sessions. However, if you have an FSA/HSA account and are seeking health coaching services, you may be able to reimburse yourself to pay for the cost of coaching. For more information about requirements, speak with your benefits specialist and healthcare provider.
